Mr. Larson graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970. Thereafter, he attended the Texas State University, College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1975. Since that time, Mr. Larson has been engaged in the practice of law in the metropolitan Dallas Fort Worth area. Mr. Larsons practice focuses in the areas of divorce, family law, child custody and support. Mr. Larson is “AV” rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Registrar of
Preeminent Lawyers. An “AV” rating is the highest rating possible. Also, he serves as a Judge Pro Tempore of the Superior Court in a Texas County.
Divorce / Family Law
After many years of practice as a divorce / family law attorney, Larson observed numerous litigation abuses in the divorce / family law courts that resulted in legal costs often exceeding the value of the case itself. Deciding these abuses must stop, Mr. Larson authored an amendment to the statute governing the grounds for the imposition of legal fees. Under his drafted revision, the court must now consider, “the reasonableness of the positions each party has taken throughout the proceedings”. The statute now reflects Mr. Larson’s firm belief that a party who acts unreasonably in a divorce / family law setting should be required to pay the opposing party’s attorney fees.
Other Career Highlights
Mr. Larson was the trial attorney for the defense in State v. Portillo. This appellate case set forth the reasonable doubt instruction that Texas courts must give to juries before deliberation in criminal cases. Not only was the defense successful in this matter, but new law was made based upon the defense presented by Mr. Larson.
Another appellate case in which Mr. Larson was instrumental is State v. Stolp. This case sets forth the criteria used in hypnotically-induced evidence in the criminal law setting.
Hobbies and Recreation
Mr. Larson is an avid equestrian. He is the past president of the Mesa Southside Sheriff’s Posse. The Posse is a volunteer mounted search and rescue group that is also involved in numerous charitable events. In addition, Mr. Larson supports local and regional theater.
